? What is the difference between the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center and Hillsborough County Pet Resources Foundation?

A: Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center (HCPRC) is the pet shelter facility operated by and serving Hillsborough County. HCPRC houses homeless cats and dogs and works to find them happy, healthy, loving homes. Hillsborough County Pet Resources Foundation (HCPRF) is a 501(c)(3) organization that raises funds to assist HCPRC in improving and providing a higher quality of life for pets in care at the shelter.

? How can I adopt a Dog or Cat from the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center?

A: HCPRC is open for adoptions Monday thru Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 440 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa. Adoptive families can visit the shelter without an appointment to visit pets available for adoption.

? What is the Adoption process at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center?

A: All adoptions and pre-adoptions must be done in-person during HCPRC business hours, Monday thru Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 440 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa. All pet adoptions are processed on a first-come, first-served basis for available pets. Please bring a form of identification with you to complete the adoption form and payment for any adoption fees.

? What does a “Pre-Adoption” status mean?

A: Animals that are noted as “Pre-Adoption” are available for early adoption but cannot be released to the adopter until the necessary vaccinations, medical care, or procedures have been administered. We can’t hold or reserve any animal outside of the early adoption process. 

? What does a “Ready to Go” status mean?

A: Animals which have completed their “Stray Hold” time and have been spayed/neutered and fully vaccinated are noted as “Ready-to-Go.” Any animal in a “Ready-to-Go” status can go home the same day.

A: We understand that sometimes difficult choices must be made and that can include having to surrender your pet(s). Reach out to our Pet Support Team so we can work with you to find the best option for you and your pet(s). ? I would like to make a donation to help homeless shelter pets. What does the shelter need?

A: HCPRF continues to rely on the generous support of the community through donations to provide an enriching experience for pets in care the HCPRC.

The shelter is in need of dog and cat food, pet treats, towels, blankets, pet food bowls, pet toys, and much more!
